GEORGIA MUSEUM OF AVIATION: DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE SPONSORED "STARBASE" ROBINS EDUCATION PROGRAM A group of gifted and talented eighth-graders from Northside Middle School got a special visit Tuesday morning from U.S.Rep Jim Marshall at the Museum of Aviation. The 23 middle schoolers were taking part in a month-long,pre-engineering pilot program at Starbase Robins. Marshall, whose two children attended camps at Starbase Robins, dropped by to show support for the program, which is sponsored by the Department of Defense. The congressman shared a little family history about his father, who worked with the Army Corps of Engineers, and about his own career in the Army and later in politics. Marshall also expressed the importance to the nation of engineering and science."This is pretty exciting what you guys are getting to do," said the former Army Ranger, referring to the work inside Starbase Robins. "You should stay with it. You guys are incredibly lucky to be doing what you're doing right here. This is an extraordinary resource here. Very few schools in the state, I would suspect, have a resource like this,"the Macon Democrat said. The students at Starbase Robins learn from instructors the importance of communication and skills employed by engineers and scientists. August 30, 3007; The Macon Telegraph (Macon,GA)
